Christian Horner admitted today he was “bloody annoyed” at being left out of television coverage during the Azerbaijan grand prix formation lap last weekend — and revealed he intends to take the matter further.
The Red Bull team principal, whose designer-stubble face has filled our TV screens before the start of every grand prix since 2018 — a record beaten only by in-race shots of his tapping right foot — told Pitlane Blues, “I think it’s something the FIA need to look at, to be honest. I mean, come on. You can’t tell me it’s a coincidence that Ferrari mechanics trying to take off their gloves were given five seconds of prime air time, while all we got was a two-second shot of a grumpy-looking Helmet (sic). It’s clearly FOM/FIA payback for the failed Ferrari protest against Max in Monaco.”
In other news, Netflix has announced it plans to give greater coverage to Horner in next season’s Drive to Survive. Rather than simply begin every episode with shots of Horner and his wife having breakfast at their English country estate, sources are quoted as saying the docuseries will be renamed Horner’s Corner and will focus on the couple’s lunch and dinner as well, with just occasional flashes of the real F1 world featuring between meals. Something I’m sure we’re all looking forward to.
