The Formula One paddock is reeling this evening following the shock revelation that Sebastian Vettel is actually ELO frontman Jeff Lynne.
There has been much talk up and down the pitlane regarding the uncanny similarity between the two ever since the four-time world champion turned up at pre-season testing in Barcelona looking, according to one source, “quite scruffy”. An unnamed Aston Martin mechanic also claims the German spent the two initial Monaco formation laps humming “Mr. Blue Sky” over the team radio — in the correct key. “Everyone plays it in A, but Seb went a semitone up to B flat, the key it was written in. The whole garage was stunned”.
Today’s news will be of little comfort to Vettel (or Lynne), 34 (or 74), whose season so far has been dogged by controversy both on and off the track (or stage), no examples of which were available at the time we went to press.
